Our
client approached us about doing an addition in the back of their house.
Up to this point, they had a full walk-out basement, but the deck above
blocked all the light to the basement. The house was covered with brick
on three sides, but the back was vinyl siding. To top it all off, the
exterior of the basement wall was pressed concrete, which was not
attractive. To start, we removed the deck and re-placed it with three
balconies off the great room. This allowed light into the basement. We
then added a brick veneer to cover up the unattractive concrete wall.
This helped make the back of house congruent with the rest of the
structure. It added continuity and a simple elegance. We also replaced
the vinyl siding with hardi-plank. To go along with the rest of the work
we were doing on the rear of the house, the customers also wanted an
addition. So, we added a covered patio off of the kitchen. The goal was
to make this patio seem like a completely natural extension of the
house. At the basement level, we did a large flagstone patio leading out
of the basement door and creating an elegant space for outdoor
relaxation.
