When this family lost
their home to a fire, everything was destroyed but their will to
rebuild. The project was to virtually re-build a completely changed home
on the same foundation. Having to use the same footprint for the
customers "new" design was a lot like the tail wagging the dog. The even
came up with a new game show called "Guess-Where-it-Pops-
Out-If-We-Push-Here". The original house was on a long narrow lot which
was much higher than the street. To reduce the appearance of being too
high, they cut into the foundation and lowered the entrance. This
improved the appearance even though the height was only a foot lower.
The roof of the front dormer was covered with copper, which will
continue to enhance the façade for many years. Overhangs were accented
with a frieze board trimmed with heritage cream aluminum. The backsplash
with European tile and granite counter countertops gives this kitchen
the look and feel of luxury without an exorbitant cost. One of the new
rooms was an in-home chapel, where the family holds prayer meetings and
home meetings.
