This was one of the most
interesting projects in the entire competition this year. It required
the creation of a formal living room, increased bedroom space with added
bathroom, large family room and breakfast area, and a dining room large
enough to seat 18 guests.
The client wanted an open space that suited their lifestyle as well as
for easy formal and informal entertaining. They desired a lot of light,
storage, and a display space for a large collection of Asian antiques
and decorative objects including a pair of 12’ tall Moroccan doors.
Craftsman style was chosen to distinguish the home from typical Colonial
and French min-mansion styles prevalent in the area. During the first
four months of the project, all communication was conducted by E-mail.
The scope of this job was immense, and the transformation dramatic. The
craftsman style works very well with the antique collection, and the use
of light makes this an open, elegant, yet extremely comfortable home. In
this case, the pictures make further description unnecessary.
