A bar for wine
connoisseurs was needed to complete the basement of this comfortable
home. It was to be in keeping with the Craftsman flavor of the home, but
with contemporary touches, and a mix of finishes. Storage was requested
for 100 bottles and a gathering place fore 3-4 people was envisioned. A
cherry bar cabinet was designed to accommodate the flow of the room.
Only corners and upper walls were left for storage. Cherry wine racks
were configured for high storage on 3 walls, with vertical racks filling
each corner, and closed storage at the bottom. The countertop area was
expanded by excavating the understair area and reframing to install a
refrigerator finished with a beadboard cherry door to coordinate with
the bar cabinets. Halogen lights are focused on the glass display. A
curved monorail double circuit system, with adjustable track heads
lighting the perimeter wine racks and art work, and pendants suspended
over the bar top, each on a separate dimmer, light the convivial scene.
