This 1934 English Tudor
Revival kitchen, although seemingly charming at first glance, had no
dishwasher, no space for a microwave and lack of adequate countertop for
it to meet today's living standards. Working under a tight budget and
strict guidelines to honor the integrity of the existing layout, the
kitchen was renovated with period-appropriate tiling, a new curved stove
vent hood, new paint on the walls and cabinets, a new vintage-styled
sink, fixtures and lighting, and constructed custom cabinets that
matched the existing ones to add more counter space. A dishwasher and
microwave were added in a way that blended seamlessly into the period
style of the kitchen. The result is a bright, classy kitchen that looks
just as good and appropriate as when the house was built in the 1930s,
yet allows the homeowner to cook and entertain efficiently for today's
time.
