For a fun loving family
of four that enjoys the lake lifestyle, an updated boathouse was a must.
They wanted a space close to the water where they could relax after a
long day on the boat. Although restricted by city ordinances, we
transformed this boathouse that was stuck in the 60’s into a timeless
treasure. The restrictions prevented us from changing the footprint,
height, and roof pitch. The first step was to give the exterior a
facelift to match the existing house. We added more windows for natural
light and swapped a deteriorating deck railing for a stunning cable rail
system. Inside, we installed wide plank white oak flooring, floor to
ceiling windows, and a heating and cooling unit to make the boathouse
enjoyable all year long. Not only did we change the appearance, but
added to the functionality of the space as well. A boathouse needs to
stand up to the unpredictability of the weather, with that in mind,
spray foam insulation was added to give the structure extra stability to
withstand constant movement. The lake level was engineered to withstand
rising water levels up to 4’-0” above the finished floor that will allow
for water levels to fluctuate and not affect the integrity of the
structure. All of these elements along with outdoor shower and a foot
wash station make this space perfect for a busy family that loves the
water.
