The central element of
this project was to add new eating space connected to an enlarged,
remodeled kitchen in this 200 year old Quaker farm house. The design
theme for the addition was to make it look like an old wooden porch that
was later enclosed. A key element was blending the new work with the old
by matching existing materials. Details such as using stonework in the
local style; traditional masonry stucco, divided light windows, and a
standing seam metal roof with 1/2 round gutters on the exterior. On the
interior, the kitchen addition features oak flooring from recycled fence
boards, reused hand painted ceramic tiles and lightly textured plaster
walls.
