The
main objective was to create an open and expansive, yet warm and
inviting outdoor living space. Located amid extensive gardens, this
space is the focal point where all paths converge. The clients wanted
the gazebo to be their outdoor retreat, a place where they could relax
and enjoy the abundant natural surroundings. They wanted a space to
gather with friends and family as well as be an appropriate venue for a
variety of intimate or large-scale formal and informal events.
Constructed entirely of cedar timber, the frame was hand built using
traditional timber frame beam joinery. The design is simple, yet
strikingly interesting, and blends old with new. The focal point of the
space is the grand fireplace, constructed with painstaking care from
dry-stacked Fon Du Lac stone. The hand shaped and fitted stonework on
the fireplace took a considerable amount of time, but the results were
well worth the effort.
