This project began
without the intention of achieving the goal of Platinum certification
with the USGBC LEED for homes program, however this became the first
Platinum Whole House remodel in Michigan, and the fifth in the entire
nation. The design solution entailed a demo of a partially collapsing
rear portion of the existing building, salvage of the materials for
repurposing, and the addition of a new basement, first floor and second
floor in ÒTÓ-like fashion on the rear. With green features including ICF
basement, AFT, SPF, Geo-thermal heating and cooling, on-demand water
heating, PEX manifold water distribution, on average this 1,900 sq. ft.
home is heating and cooling for $45 per month.
