After a burst water filter damaged more than 1,000 square feet, this
remodel turned an emergency repair into a meaningful design opportunity.
The original great room fireplace sat on a diagonal, interrupting the
layout, limiting furniture placement, and competing with the home s
mountain views. During demolition, a concealed structural column was
discovered inside the fireplace wall. Rather than compromise the design,
the team incorporated it into a flatter contemporary fireplace wall with
an integrated bench and salvaged mahogany top. The result is a warmer,
cleaner, more functional focal point that better connects the living
area, kitchen, dining space, and views
