This project was a "frame
up" restoration of a small 1920 Craftsman cottage in a historic district
north of downtown Los Angeles. The house was gutted to facilitate the
addition of central heat & air conditioning, new electrical wiring and
copper plumbing. The goal was to retain as much of the period detail as
possible without being a slave to it. A vintage claw-foot tub was
purchased from an architectural salvage shop. An old O'Keefe and Merritt
stove was located in good condition on Craig's List, which only needed a
good cleaning and tune-up. On the exterior, the front porch was extended
to become a wrap-around porch, which makes this 840 square foot home
feel much larger and expands living space.
