This newly retired couple wanted a
beautiful home remodel that would be comfortable now, and will continue
to be safe and functional as they age. The exterior of the house
features a new roofed porch to replace the original unroofed deck. The
new front porch has completely transformed the look of the house and
provided a wonderful spot to enjoy the afternoon sun. New siding, barge
boards, paint, and gutters on the exterior give this home a completely
new look.
We completely rebuilt the inside of the
house, demolishing the interior down to the studs and subfloor, and
improving accessibility. Removing walls between the living room,
kitchen, and hall provided an open floor plan. Sunken floors to the
living room were raised 7.5 inches so that the main floor was all at the
same level.
The new kitchen is
larger, with new countertops and cabinets and added storage. A lovely
turquoise island is perfect for breakfast and features built in
cabinets, providing additional storage. The kitchen gained space by
removing the original “head banger” staircase to the basement and adding
a kitchen pantry, built in ovens and a coffee station. The basement
stairs were relocated. A small addition was created on the east side of
the house for a new, wide staircase. The original laundry room was in
the basement. An unneeded third bedroom was converted into a main-floor
laundry room that is bright and colorful and much more convenient on the
main living floor. This remodel has provided the homeowners with a
beautiful space that is now filled with natural light, and the open
interior allows communication across the main living areas.
