The project goal was to
insert the homeowners’ contemporary lifestyle into this early 20th
century home, while respectfully transitioning the new details. This
meant updating the kitchen and surrounding areas, creating a space that
would suit large family holidays, and simultaneously maintain a
close-knit/engaged family life.
The home’s proximity to
the lot line limited our ability to present a large addition as a
solution, and the multiple previous renovations/additions provided
challenges during construction. Our creative solutions resulted in this
elegant double island design that provides the flexibility and
connectivity needed to tie the old house with the modern world.
