An upscale New England
Golf and Tennis Club had to address the needs of all its members and
guests. The primary focus of this project was to construct an accessible
structure allowing easy access for handicapped individuals to the club’s
sunken ballroom which presents major obstacles for wheelchairs. Because
of the appearance and space required for a chair lift, it was not
feasible to locate it inside the ballroom itself, so a 12’ X 25’
addition was to be built to accommodate the lift while maintaining the
design integrity of this stylish old mansion.
A physical addition was constructed, matching every component and detail
of the original structure. Since the remodel there’s no noise
interruption in the ballroom from mechanical lifts and no loss of space
on the main floor. And most importantly, guests using the lift feel more
comfortable since they can get in or out of the ballroom without
excessive noise announcing their entry or exit.
