The owner of this 1920's
bungalow wanted to convert a dank basement apartment into a welcoming
guest suite reflecting the home's mission style and offering modern
luxuries. The project also included replacing a rickety staircase and
creating a laundry room. The contractor bisected the long, narrow suite
with a cased, columned opening to create intimate spaces for both the
bedroom and sitting room. Staff carpenters built mission-style doors and
millwork to match the home's originals. Support posts were deftly
navigated in the laundry, resulting in a nook for the custom-built
farmhouse sink and an art niche.
