This couple used their
seaside cottage to entertain friends and a large family several times a
year. The age and condition of the cottage and the need for more parking
and storage, prompted them to completely make the place over. The house
was located on a very small lot, and was already encroaching on the
setback lines. Further, the home was originally built from the debris of
victims homes left in the wake of Hurricane Hazel in 1957.
The house was repositioned on the lot, and was elevated high enough to
create under the house parking and storage areas. Additional floor
joists were installed, along with other supports to ensure the
structural stability of the home. A new front porch and a 5’ X 20’ deck
now allow them to enjoy the cool coastal breezes and warm company of
friends and family.
