This was the conversion
of a 2,963 square foot basement area into a space for informal
activities for a couple with five active pre-teen children. For five
pre-teen kids, I think my design would have looked a lot like something
out of The Green Mile.
The space was divided into specific activity areas…exercise room, game
tables, television viewing, conversation and reading (with five
kids…you’re dreaming), bar and wine cellar (that’s more like it). The
separate areas were architecturally defined by changes in ceiling
height. Floor and wall coverings and the use owner’s collection of
artifacts.
The key to a great basement remodel is a spacious look, and this does it
very nicely.
