The project was to build
a separate living unit for the owner’s mother, who is in the initial
stages of Alzheimers disease. The design challenge was to fit a bedroom,
full bath, kitchen, untilities and some living space into a footprint
less than 400 square feet. The architect did a very good job with the
cathedral ceiling in the bedroom, making that room feel much bigger. The
arched windows in the bedroom and kitchen let in ample light and the
French doors (or do we now call them “freedom doors”?) that open to the
patio make the spaces feel much larger than they are.
