2009 Best Addition Over $250,000
This spectacular bathroom
addition fulfills the requests of a warm and witty senior citizen. The
client wished for a new master bathroom where he could swim (as advised
by his doctor), change, and of course, bathe. The challenge was to get a
pool and bathroom onto a very difficult site. The simple solution was to
combine the elements. An endless pool was the solution for year-round
swimming, and it is located just footsteps from his bedroom. The
moisture given off by the pool is offset by a specially designed HVAC
system that regulates humidity, independent of indoor temperature. A
curb-less shower will accommodate a wheelchair, if the need arises, with
grab bars installed in ideal locations for support. The pool was built
on its own slab, which sits lower than the floor slab. This allows the
pool deck to be brought down to sitting height, making entry easy for
this older client.
