2000 Best Residential Historic Renovation

A famous house, a famous street, and a famous neighborhood: the project was to revitalize the George Washington Smith house across from the Mission in Santa Barbara. Smith is one of Southern California’s most renowned architects. Working in the historic Mission district on a famous house is fraught with roadblocks. The neighbors and Landmarks Commission did not want the house touched. With careful planning, Allen Construction was able to win their support to restore this 1920’s gem to its former grandeur.
