The two purposes for this
remodel were to create a more elegant space for enjoyment and
entertaining, and to create additional vistas of the lake and skyline.
The original design was a classic 1965 A-Frame with an attached flat
roof structure. The interior treatments were dark and rusticated,
including rough sawn timber beams and knotty pine paneling. Dominating
the floor plan was a massive 22 foot white marble chimney that towered
over the living room and obstructed views.
The existing fireplace was removed and replaced with a new one that is
now a focal point, but does not obstruct the view. A second floor was
added over the flat roofed areas, which created generous space for an
elegant Master Suite that benefits from both northern lake views and
southern light. By extending a gable from the A-Frame and carrying
steeply pitched gables across the single story structure, the 60’s
design is transformed into one more reminiscent of a Tudor cottage. As a
result, they now proudly welcome guests to their home and share with
them the uplifting natural light and stunning views that the new design
offers.
