The owners wanted their 1920’s home to be updated but still retain a classic look. We took a classic design cabinet door (shaker style) and used it in pure white. The owners wanted the island and seat/bench to stand out and really pop. We custom built those pieces so we could get the color just right for the owner. The lighting used was period lights. Recessed cans and under counter lights really brighten the work surfaces and can also be dimmed to offer a night light or change the mood. The absolute black counter was the real surprise in this project. The owners insisted they did not want granite, but in our fabrication shop we showed them absolute black that had been honed and leathered, and it was love at first sight. The dinette was custom built from rosewood that was salvaged out of a local high school that was being renovated, and the metal was welded and left exposed to give it an industrial look. The client has many parties and everyone loves the kitchen and how open it feels.
