This family suffered a catastrophic fire in the second level and attic of their home. The entire house was damaged by the smoke and water that spread throughout the house. Fortunately, no one was injured. The scope of work included replacement of some of the second level framing, the attic level roof structure and all the interior finishes. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were damaged and required major repairs. All existing windows, flooring, cabinetry, appliances, light fixtures, and plumbing fixtures were replaced. After meeting with the insurance adjuster, a scope of work and an estimate were determined. BELFOR then met with the homeowners to redesign the kitchen and attic space, and to establish value engineering to work the design changes into the fire damage reconstruction scope of work. To acquire needed space for an enlarged kitchen, the kitchen was relocated into the space occupied by an enclosed porch. Three dormers were added to the attic level to allow additional natural light into the attic. An additional access to the attic, from the master bedroom, was added to transform the attic area into a walk-up sitting area. The energy and faith of the family, combined with the creativity of the BELFOR staff resulted in a very successful renovation.
