The 1972 home designed by
a student of frank Lloyd Wright had never been updated. The original
kitchen was severed from the adjacent breakfast area by a structural
wing wall. The owners wanted the new kitchen to be more open and
inviting to guests. To solve the dilemma, the contractor replaced the
wing wall with a slender stainless steel column and floating glass
eating surface for use by guests. Granite countertops and maple
cabinetry pay homage to Wright’s love of natural materials. Flush
cabinet doors and clean cabinet lines reflect Wright’s recurrent passion
for rectilinear geometry. The stylish new kitchen updates utility
consistent with the home’s aesthetic appeal.
