With their building being
demolished to make way for another project, a new recording facility had
to be built quickly. The owner was doubling the number of studios to
handle the anticipated demand, but cash flow required the project to be
built out very inexpensively. The owner selected an old manufacturing
space, which required the complete uplift of mechanical, electrical, and
plumbing.
For acoustical reasons, no two surfaces in the recording studios could
be parallel…not even the floor and ceiling. In addition, because of the
production schedule and the client’s existing operation, one of the two
studios had to be completed first. The solution for both these
requirements was to treat the studios as two independent boxes, so one
could be completed before the other.
In a very contested marketplace, the new facilities have provided the
client a highly productive space that met the objectives of being
economic, functional, and visually stimulating. The appearance and
functional qualities are the items most commented on by the clients and
talent that use the facility.
