The objective was to create a gourmet cooking kitchen with enough space for two cooks and entertaining. To accomplish the open floor plan the home was expanded to the rear and side of the house. Once the functional needs were addressed, style became the focus. Distressed and glazed cream-painted cabinets with strong lines hint at the Arts and Crafts style. Honed, absolute black countertops were selected because while modern, the matte finish keeps the kitchen informal. A time-honored farmhouse sink is made modern in a stainless steel finish. The subway tiles and beadboard support the traditional style and echo the strong lines of the overall design.
