Built in 1897, this
historic farmhouse was in need of additional living space, while
maintaining the historic integrity of the home. Specifically, the
homeowner desired a larger kitchen, increased living space for family
gatherings and a safe room for protection during emergencies. It was
essential that the home meet the needs of a busy household while
blending modern conveniences with historic charm. These challenges were
met by adding a single-story addition that allowed for an expanded
kitchen, new family room, dining area, full first floor bathroom and a
safe room. Historically sensitive design also played an integral role in
building and finding new materials that would add those modern
conveniences without compromising the historic charm.
