This project involved an
extensive renovation to the entire house, while also adding a complete
second floor to the house and a new screened porch on the back. It also
involved upgrading the existing HVAC system and ductwork, added
insulation, replaced old windows, and brought the entire house up to
EarthCraft standards. Additional measures included extensive air sealing
of the building shell and sealing the basement with 10 mil. plastic.
Materials were recycled, and a recycling center for all waste was
established on the site. Materials gained during deconstruction such as
lumber and brick were reused during the renovation, and use of
engineered materials, modern framing techniques and methods of
construction maximizing durability were used. This house not only
produced a house exceeding EarthCraft standards, it demonstrates just
how beautiful and functional a green house can be.
