Well aware of the fact that they already
owned an architectural gem of a house, our clients came to us with a
desire to increase the functionality and livability of their home
without sacrificing its dramatic Mid-Century modern style. In fact, they
wanted to heighten and accentuate its architectural style. Common to
most houses of this era, the architecture targeted the needs of the
average American family by creating structures with open floor plans,
ample windows to bring the outdoors in, and an avoidance of bulky
support walls. The result of our design process and inevitable
conclusion to the reconstruction effort was a solution that did just
this.
The resulting home is
more visually dynamic, significantly more functional (a great open
kitchen, mudroom and dog-wash, main level laundry, upper level gallery
space, and a fabulous master suite), and gloriously expounds upon the
virtues of the American Mid-Century modern style.
