2016 Award - Whole House Remodel under $300,000

Built in the early 1900’s as a buggy workshop, the saw-toothed warehouse had potential – clerestory lighting, brick walls and great wood trusses. The challenge was creating good living space because there were few windows at ground level. We selectively removed sections of the roof to create open-air courtyards, and designed each condo around it’s own private garden. The courtyard floods the interior with light while insulating it from the noise of the surrounding neighborhood. Tall ceilings allowed us to create dramatic main living spaces while tucking secondary rooms into mezzanines. The variety of living space is what makes it a comfortable home.
