2015 National Award
Bathroom Remodel
$50,000 - $75,000

In this 1960’s era home, an extensive master bath expansion was completed in the 80’s that looked much like a marble fortress of stone. Nearly all surfaces were covered in a layer of very busy, shiny marble. Not only was it dangerously slippery for a bathroom, but it was visually exhausting and dated.

The current homeowners tastes leaned toward a “quiet” modern aesthetic with clean, simple lines and the use of natural materials.

The first objective in designing the new space was to create a streamlined layout that allowed the room to feel spacious yet approachable and inviting. Another key request from the homeowners was to capture as much storage space as possible with everything close at hand, but hidden.

Now beautiful slab-front, custom rift-sawn white oak cabinets fill and define the perimeter of the room and create a horizontal visual element. A soft 12” x 24” tile is used on the floor and continues through the shower to create a soft dappled back drop. These elements allow the jewelry of the space to shine - like the elegant Kohler Simplice fixtures, a sleek Toto toilet, shimmery glass tile accents and satin finishes on the hardware and light fixtures.

Today the homeowners have a peaceful haven at the beginning and ending of each day. The place that overwhelmed them and was a burden is now a place for calm and care of themselves.
