Even small additions can
yield big results. This 1933 tudor revival cottage had a cramped kitchen
and uncomfortably tight back stair. Bumping just 5 feet toward the
driveway transformed the average kitchen into an airy, sun-filled
showplace. Matching brick was obtained by carefully salvaging the old
brick that came from the demolished outside wall, and more stripped from
the back face of the detached garage. Matching roof tile was purchased
from a vintage home being demolished nearby. The new, but vintage
looking kitchen has multiple focal points. The range and range hood, the
black-paneled refrigerator, and primarily the tall 3-wide fortune window
for the sink. The ceiling over the sink was vaulted to allow extra
height over this most utilized fixture. The owner has a kitchen with a
vintage look, but with all the modern conveniences.
