The project was to take
the existing stone terrace of this English-Regency residence and create
a screened porch following the shape of the terrace. The trick was to
maintain the design and integrity of the historic home. Obviously the
curves of the terrace presented a challenge in forming the screens and
cornices. In keeping with the view of the front entry porch of the
house, the new design incorporates Roman Doric columns that hide the
downspouts on the porch, with classical entablature forming the cornice
and copper roof. The cupolas on top of the porch introduce additional
natural light into the covered area. The screen trims were painted a
dark color, blending them into the dark screen to make it disappear when
viewed from the exterior.
