A sunken family room floor was a major fall hazard, greatly restricted the flow between the kitchen/family room/dining room and required an awkward peninsula and wall between the kitchen and family room space. Of key importance in the new design was creating a true open concept that integrated the kitchen, family room and dining room providing easy (and safe) access between rooms. In order to accomplish this, the sunken family room floor was raised, the kitchen partition wall was eliminated and the kitchen was completely re-configured. The kitchen cabinetry compliments the new fireplace and built-in cabinetry design that was added in the adjacent family room space.
