Situated on a bluff with
sweeping views of the Puget Sound, the existing home’s compartmentalized
design failed to take advantage of the spectacular scenery. By removing
interior walls and posts and adding steel and glu-lam beams to carry the
loads, we opened up the entry, kitchen, dining and living rooms to the
ocean views.
It was important to the
homeowners to keep the flare of the mid-century home by keeping the
existing fireplace & stone surround as well as the hardwood flooring,
while selecting new, modern complimentary finishes in the surrounding
areas.
The kitchen now opens to
the dining space so both the chef and guests can enjoy the water views.
The kitchen boasts 21st century appliances and amenities yet blends in
with the mid-century vibe. The existing wood stair balusters were
replaced with a modern aluminum and glass railing providing a cleaner
finish so the view is the focus.
