Attic is Turned Into
Luxurious Master Suite
Don Strobel utilized every available square inch of space to turn a
large unused attic into a new master bedroom, master bath, den, laundry,
walk-in closet, and air conditioning storage. The plan required raising
ceiling heights and maximizing the built-in storage potential of
knee-walls.
The unusual constraints included the fact that the 2 X 6 floor joists
were too small to carry the anticipated weight. Working above the old
plaster ceilings without creating multiple cracks required nimble
footwork and careful concentration by the carpenters.
Almost doubling the living area of a one story home without adding a new
addition was a real bonus for the grateful homeowners. The quiet retreat
upstairs offers all the amenities of modern living while maintaining the
home’s original character.
