2008 Best Finished Basement National Award Winner
This active family of
five wanted to create an indoor recreation center in their unfinished
basement with unique spaces to meet everyone’s needs. These include:
A family/media room, wet bar, guest bedroom, game areas, craft area,
exercise room, spa bathroom....and an indoor soccer field.
The soccer field walls were constructed of melamine sheets and white
laminate spline to withstand the impact of the soccer ball. The laminate
also allowed accurate “bounce back” of the ball, unlike regular drywall.
A natural indent in the wall was used for a netted goal space.
Commercial modular flooring with rubber cove base moulding was used. It
is comprise of open tiles that can be removed for cleaning...or if the
room is to be used for another purpose. The ceiling was specially
insulated to provide noise protection. Windows were covered with
removable iron grates and special grilled lights were installed to
protect the bulbs.
The designer successfully fulfilled all of the client’s requests in a
beautiful, timeless way while also giving them future options should the
use of spaces change.
