2006 Special Room Addition Over $100,000

The owners of this Cape Cod salt box wanted to up their home's curb appeal, and square footage. A smart 950 sq. ft. Craftsman-style addition succeeded in doing both. Moving the front door informs the rest of the program. The larger foyer, with its open stairwell and knee walls creates visual communication between the living and dining rooms. Arts-and-crafts detailing throughout redefine the tone inside. Upstairs, two new bedrooms and a new bath make room for the growing family. Adding a big dormer upstairs gives more space to an existing bedroom and contributes to the improved facade. The exterior also gets a detailed paint scheme, cedar-shake siding, and mahogany front door. A copper-roofed portico, extending just far enough to welcome visitors and passersby completes the gracious transformation.
