The plan that was presented created a
fresh 21st Century open plan for a good portion of the first floor of
the home; a plan that perfectly fit this young professional woman that
		loves to entertain.
		There are mixed feelings
regarding the loss of a formal Dining Room, but even with removing the
Dining Room wall common with the Kitchen, the designer was able to
maintain the distinction of a separate, formal room with the addition of
the shallow arched opening that mimics other doorways existing in the
residence. Since the existing wall common with the Kitchen and Dining
Room was load bearing, a header was required and slipped in just below
the joists. The designer found the location of the existing Powder Room
was inhibiting the open floor plan she envisioned for the new kitchen
layout. After establishing the fact that the removal of the bathroom
wall common with the Kitchen did not require further structural support,
the design was set. The original doorway into the kitchen from the
Mudroom has now become the opening to the new location for the Powder
Room. Closing off the original Powder Room window was next in line. To
create a new entry into the Mudroom the long pass-through into the room
was shortened and treated with a granite overhang that accommodates an
overflow of seated guests when entertaining. The final details were
wrapped up with terrific material choices. Maple perimeter cabinets,
finished with a smoky grey paint, are paired with the rich ebony finish
of the Island cabinets. Glass splash tiles and the revised lighting plan
through-out all the rooms complete the rebirth
		.
