For this project, the
existing space was gutted and expanded and a full complement of
utilities, counters, and cabinets were required. All the work needed to
be consistent with the historic character of this century-old house. The
wonderful discovery was that the fireplace, which was hidden behind the
studs and plaster of a previous remodel, was remarkably intact. The
all-but-useless old kitchen became a stunning, airy space, blessed with
both the charm of historical detail and the efficiency of modern
appliances and work spaces.
