This bathroom was
remodeled to accommodate the owner’s elderly parents, who visit them
frequently. It was part of a showcase house charity benefit, and due to
unforeseen plumbing problems the remodeler was allowed only four days to
work on the project before the deadline. One of the challenges was to
remodel the bath and have it match the look of the rest of the Victorian
house. The existing contemporary sink was replaced with an antique one
which was restored with a re-glazing system, and a new toilet in antique
style that was 16" higher for easier use was installed. Grab bars and an
accessibility cut out in the side of the existing cast-iron tub made the
shower more manageable for the parents. The rich colors and appointments
marry this room to the rest of the first floor, and the elderly parents
have commented on how easy it is for them to use.
