The kitchen in this late
nineteenth century farmhouse was poorly renovated in the 60’s. The
project was to transform it into a bright, modern kitchen with all the
modern conveniences, while achieving the timeless look this historic
home deserved.
As part of the requirements for the project, they needed to include a
convenient space for the laundry area, as well as designing an area to
display the crystal and china that had been passed down through the
family. As a solution to both requests, a deep counter area was
incorporated for a front-loading washer and dryer to fit beneath. It
sits out of the way of the work triangle, yet ties into the kitchen
design. The deep counter can be used as additional counter space, or a
place to fold laundry. Glass front cabinets and open shelves were
built-in above to provide display space.
The overall result is an amazing transformation from a dark,
inefficient, unwelcoming space to a bright, classic kitchen using the
highest quality materials and conveniences.
