In
July, 2011, these apartments at Coastal Carolina University were struck
by lighting subsequently igniting the building. The fire ripped through
the roof causing significant damage to the 3rd floor and heavy smoke and
water damage on the 21st and 2nd. The apartments house nearly 1,000
students in 21 buildings. Move-in day for the apartments was to be three
weeks after the fire, which added to the complexity of the project.
Before more-in day, we had new trusses installed and converted the fire
site into a construction site. We were able to make all repairs and
receive the Certificate of Occupancy 103 days after the fire.
