The owners wanted their
1905 Tudor-influenced Craftsman returned to its original condition
throughout. With this renovation, this historic home regained its old
beauty...and then some. Besides restoring luster to old woodwork and
finishes, they also added to the home’s grandeur with historically
appropriate wall treatments. The key to any successful historic remodel
is having the end result look not at all new. The 100-year-old woodwork
was refinished with careful attention to stripping off the old stain
while leaving the old-grain surfaces intact. Because stain darkens with
age, handling and sun, they matched new stain to elements, such as box
beams, least affected by these factors. The old windows were also given
new life and function with the replacement or repair of hardware,
weights, pulleys and sashes.
