The clients presented the
challenge of creating a 1920’s kitchen suitable for both entertaining
and raising a future family. With this goal in mind, it was decided to
gut the existing kitchen, demolish the poorly constructed 1960’s era
mudroom and add a 430 sq. ft addition to accommodate the kitchen, family
room, powder room, butler pantry and laundry room.
Construction was challenged by the the presence of an existing bomb
shelter and three-foot diameter oak tree stump. This problem was solved
by using large amounts of dynamite…just kidding.
The result was a kitchen with multiple work zones, ample cabinets, tall
ceilings and a comfortable adjoining family room that met all the goals
of this young family.
