2007 Kitchen Remodel $75,000 - $100,000

The clients wanted three things: Update the kitchen, open it up to the rest of the home and integrate the art they had collected into the home. We started by taking a look at their furniture and artwork, and with inspiration from the colors, textures and tones, we developed the general look and feel of the kitchen. The limestone backsplash is a soft and neutral companion to the white onyx countertops. Being semi-translucent, the swirls of red in the countertops glow as the sun illuminates the room then hide as the sun fades. A “landscape” was created above the cabinets to act as a display area for some of the homeowners’ objects. The relationships between the materials are balanced as they exchange shapes and roles throughout the space. The structured lines of the cabinets give way to the hand-carved legs of the countertop, and the polished curves of the countertop add contrast to the sharp and jagged stone above the cabinets.
