2005 Special Award Room Remodel

The homeowners wanted to enlarge the living area of their home for their growing family. They wanted a new child’s bedroom and a bath that would be shared with an existing bedroom. They took advantage of the steeply pitched roof and utilized all but about four feet of floor space at the rafter ends. Carefully planned built-in cabinetry eliminated headroom issues. The center of the attic space was close to 18 feet high. They capitalized on that height by building a loft study/play area directly over the new bedroom closet. Under a custom-built ship’s ladder leading to the loft is a built-in activities desk. An adjoining dormer houses the new shared bathroom. The shower incorporates a glass block window that allows light without sacrificing privacy. The new bedroom, with its loft play area, ship’s ladder and built-ins was a creative solution to the family’s need for additional space.
