The design direction was
to open the dark, limiting kitchen to the family room to create a great
room which reflected the owner's eclectic taste, rather than a dark,
dated, country feel. The result is an elegant mix of materials, surfaces
and cabinet colors. The central island is perfect for the young children
to gather and is finished in a spectacular granite slab. The soffit
overhead mimics the shape of the island and different counter surfaces
add to the desired "un-fit" kitchen aesthetic. Some of the other
features are a built-in china hutch with custom leaded glass doors,
varied antiqued tile backsplash, a special order green glazed embossed
farm sink and matching chandeliers over the island that appear again in
the great room.
